Glenfields Childrens Heart Unit Update

Fantastic news today that Glenfields will continue, a vital service for the East Midlands and one used by a number of local families. Having a specialist facility within a reasonable distance is important, both for emergencies and for the post-op or after care required, commuting long distances for which is extremely tough on children and family life. Glenfields has a good reputation and is a leader in some areas which would have been lost if it had closed.

The decision was made by NHS England at a board meeting in London on Thursday, November 30. The move came after a number of campaigns were launched over the last year in a bid to urge NHS England to reconsider the proposals, attracting a wide range of support from across the East Midlands.

Well done to the many campaigners. I joined forces with MPs across the region and am delighted in the outcome.
