Parliamentary Debating Competition 2015



The first ever local parliamentary debating competition will be held on Thursday 17th December in the State Chamber, Bishop’s Palace, Southwell Minster from 730pm-930pm.

Students from Southwell Minster School, The Newark Academy the Magnus Academy, and Toot Hill School will be battling it out for the title of 2015 Parliamentary Debating Competition Champions.

The judging panel includes myself, the Bishop of Southwell, the Editor of The Nottingham post and the Chair of the Newark Business Club.

The first debate will be between Southwell Minster School and the Newark Academy.

Motion: State Snooping is a price worth paying for our Security

The second debate will be between The Magnus Academy and Toot Hill School.

Motion: Tough Prison sentences mean a Safer Society

The aim of the competition is to give students the opportunity to practice vital life skills like the formulation and presentation of an argument and public speaking as well as think about social, political and moral issues.
